IUHPS-Manchester 2013

The International Union for History and Philosophy of Science, Division of Historhy of Science and Technology, will hold its 24th International Congress in Manchester, UK between 22 and 28 July 2013 with the theme, "Knowledge at Work."

The IUHPS's Commission of the History of Oceanography has been asked to participate with its own Symposium addressing the Congress theme, broadly considered. Wlater Lenz from Hamburg (Germany) and Vera Schwach from Oslo (Norway) have agreed to organize such a Symposium. For those who have submitted a paper to the regretfully withdrawn ICHO in Athens (July 2012) and want to present the paper in Manchester, they may follow the models of the organizers' papers, "The historical role of teh international Fladenground-Experiment 1976 to the North Sea--the birth of computation of three-dimensional natural processed in the sea" (Lenz), and "At sea with science, at work with water bottles and fishing nets: the importance of instruments for teh development of oceanography, ca. 1870-1910" (Schwach).

The title of the actual symposium sponsored by ICHO will be defined according to teh submissions. Anyone who is interested to participate should send the title of a proposed talk before 31 March 2012 to walter.lenz@zmaw.de and/or vera.schwach@nifu.no
